Titanium jewelry

Titanium gives jewelry what silver and gold cannot: extreme lightness, strength, hypoallergenicity and colours without paint or coatings. Argentum is a manufacture with advanced titanium processing — anodizing and laser welding — a competence most producers lack. Below is everything worth knowing about titanium jewelry and how we produce it for brands.

Why titanium — properties

Titanium has the best strength-to-weight ratio of all metals — about 40% lighter than steel at comparable strength. It does not corrode, because it instantly forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects it in water and sweat. It is biocompatible and nickel-free, which is why it is regarded as one of the safest metals in contact with skin. It is also hard and scratch-resistant. In practice this means jewelry that is light in the hand yet resistant to deformation and to daily wear for years.

Colours without paint — anodizing

Titanium is the only jewelry metal that takes on intense colours without a single drop of paint or coating. This is due to anodizing: a thin oxide layer whose thickness is controlled by voltage refracts light, producing colour by interference — like a rainbow on an oil slick. The colour is thus fused into the metal rather than laid on top, so it does not peel off or fade from light or water. Changing the voltage moves through the full palette of shades.

Our edge: full titanium processing

Titanium is hard and needs a different technology than precious metals: machining from solid (CNC), laser cutting and welding, and colour anodizing. These are advanced processes most workshops lack — which is why the quality of titanium work on the market varies widely. At Argentum we run them in-house, under one roof, giving repeatability across series and control over every stage. For a brand it means the ability to make a collection the competition cannot reproduce in silver or gold.

What we produce in titanium

In titanium we make, among others, wedding bands and rings, earrings and posts (also for allergy sufferers and fresh piercings), bracelets, pendants, signets and accessories with character. Titanium excels where lightness, strength and a modern, technical look matter, and anodizing lets you add colour as a design element. Polished, satin and brushed finishes are possible, as is combining titanium with other materials.

Who titanium jewelry is for

Titanium appeals to several clear groups. Allergy sufferers and people with sensitive skin — because it is hypoallergenic and nickel-free. Active people and athletes — because it is light and almost indestructible. Men — because titanium bands and jewelry have a modern, strong character. Premium and design brands — because anodizing colours and a technical look set a collection apart. Titanium thus opens segments classic silver and gold jewelry does not reach.

Titanium grades — grade 2 and grade 5

In jewelry we most often work with pure grade 2 titanium (ductile, biocompatible, anodizes beautifully) and the grade 5 alloy, Ti-6Al-4V (harder and stronger, for the most durable pieces). The choice of grade depends on the product's function, expected durability and anodizing colour. We cover the details in the article on titanium grades. We advise the best option for a specific project already at the quoting stage.

Titanium production under your brand

We make titanium jewelry as a titanium jewelry manufacturer — custom and under private label, from prototype to series, with full confidentiality. You set the product type, titanium grade, finish and anodizing colour, and we ensure repeatability across the whole batch. We split the quote into material and labour, net, on EXW terms. Send your idea or design via the enquiry form, and we will help choose the technology and prepare a sample before production.

Titanium in numbers

A few numbers that show why titanium stands out in jewelry:

  • About 40% lighter than steel at comparable strength.
  • The best strength-to-weight ratio of all metals.
  • Biocompatible and nickel-free — used in medical implants.
  • Grades used in jewelry: grade 2 (pure) and grade 5, i.e. Ti-6Al-4V (alloy).
  • A full range of anodizing colours — without paint or coatings.
  • Does not corrode or rust, even in seawater.

Titanium production step by step

Titanium jewelry production at Argentum runs in stages: design and 3D model (CAD), machining from solid on CNC, laser cutting and welding, assembly, surface finishing (polish, satin, brushing), voltage-controlled colour anodizing and quality control before dispatch. We run every stage in-house, which gives repeatability across series and full control over quality — from prototype to series production.

Titanium facts

  • The name comes from the Titans of Greek mythology — the mighty gods, children of Earth and Sky.
  • It has the best strength-to-weight ratio of all metals — that is why it is used to build rockets and aircraft.
  • The body accepts it, which is why it is used for joint implants, bone screws and dental implants.
  • It is non-magnetic and does not rust even in seawater.
  • It takes colours without paint — the colour arises from light interference on the oxide layer.
  • It is one of the most abundant elements in the Earth's crust — its price comes from difficult processing, not rarity.

FAQ about titanium jewelry

Is titanium jewelry hypoallergenic?

Yes. Titanium is biocompatible and nickel-free, so it is among the safest metals in contact with skin — a good choice for allergy sufferers and fresh piercings.

How does titanium gain colours?

Through anodizing — an electrochemical process where colour comes from light interference on the oxide layer, without paint or coatings. Voltage determines the shade.

Does titanium tarnish or rust?

No. Titanium is chemically inert — it does not tarnish like silver and does not corrode. Just rinse it with warm water and mild soap.

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

We set the MOQ individually — we handle both short trial runs and series production. It depends on the product, titanium grade and finish.

Do you produce titanium jewelry under the client's brand?

Yes. We do custom and private label production, from prototype to series, with full confidentiality. We prepare a sample for approval before production.

Can scratches be removed from titanium?

Shallow scratches on solid titanium can be removed by re-polishing or re-matting, because the colour is in the metal. With anodized titanium, deep scratches may require re-anodizing.
